Today I received a phone call from a woman that I have never met before. I just had our cable and internet installed and I was taking my 4pm nap. The last thing that I was expecting was to be asked questions about photography for beginners. But immediately, I felt a surge of happiness when I answered. I cannot explain it, but something clicked.
The woman was calling to ask me questions about photography. She is learning and was in need of help. The fact that she took the time to call me showed me just how serious she is about it. She listened to every word I said, even while I was rambling on.
She seemed so eager to learn and her attitude was beyond amazing. I often get approached by photographers for advice. However, they often times just want me to tell them what I know.
The fact that she called with specific questions, and a desire to answer them after trying herself first meant so much to me. A great attitude really does go a long way!
Photography for Beginners – Learning to Swallow Your Pride
I know that in such a personal profession it is hard not to get wrapped up in ourselves. We don’t want to ever admit fault, for fear that somebody will take advantage of it. But there comes a time when asking for help is necessary.
And though not everybody out there is willing to share their wisdom, there are few that are so generous with their knowledge. Find them. Learn from them. Thank them. They will make you a better person, and you will at least give them a bit of happiness in return.
I know that there are so many things that I struggle with. I’m still learning. I will never stop learning.
And I know that somewhere out there, a person exists who will be there to help me. And because of this, I will always be there to help others.
What I love about photography is that it has given me lifelong friends who I have learned from and grown with. I have met some of the nicest people who are so willing to help when asked.
We are all in this together. We will all grow together, and we will all learn together.
I ask those photographers out there who are struggling with something to swallow your pride and ask for help. There isn’t a right or wrong way to learn photography for beginners. And I ask you to help others when asked in return.
If I have done anything in my otherwise boring day, I would like to think that I have helped a fellow human being. And that thought is what inspires me to pick up my camera everyday.
Thank you N for inspiring me, motivating me, and allowing me into your life.
I hope you find all of the answers that you are looking for.
