I receive a lot of emails from other photographers about boudoir. Most people are going in to their first session and are either feeling lost or scared or hundreds of other emotions that all lead them to seek help.
Your first boudoir session could definitely be scary when you have not ever shot one before.
As boudoir photographers we have an even greater responsibility to our clients to make them look good. Boudoir is not like other forms of photography were the focus may be on the family, the event, or the client is clothed.
Our clients come to us with their own (unfortunately often negative) self perceptions. You are a stranger to them and will be photographing them in a state of undress that few have probably ever seen them in before. It is your duty to not only make them look beautiful but to make them feel and see that they are beautiful.
So yes, we have a greater responsibility.
It is the aim of both Leila and myself to educate those venturing in this field. Both of us have had clients come to us after a bad boudoir experience with another photographer and we have to help them overcome the damage that was done because of a bad boudoir experience.
Leila and I are the ONLY two photographers in the Hampton Roads area who shoot boudoir exclusively.
We each have very different way of running our business and offer two different sides of the spectrum.
Because of this, there are many things that will be covered in this Question and Answer Session.
Topics that will be covered include
The Psychology of Boudoir
Creating a business in Virginia
Marketing and attracting your ideal client
Running a home based studio versus a commercial studio
Operating on a low volume versus a high volume
Client interaction from initial contact to finish
Workflow
Pricing for profit
