I received a phone call from Tanya just as I got into my car to drive home after seeing my husband off. I waited to get home to listen to the message because I was a bit emotional from saying goodbye.
Tanya’s daughter in law had been looking for a photographer for her husbands homecoming, but everybody was booked up. I had to turn down requests for an OpLove photographer in case my husband deployed later.
I called Tanya back and she told me her story.
Mikaela had been pregnant throughout the Kearsarge deployment. She, at nineteen, took on the difficult task of carrying a baby while her husband was far away. Baby Chloe was born while her daddy was away at sea.
This story hit so close to home. It was so similar to my mothers story, and I know firsthand just how important these photos are.
We waited with hundreds of people also waiting for their loved ones to get off the ship.
Here are a few of my favorites from the Homecoming.
Welcome home USS Kearsarge!
